A Life Giving SpiritWritten by Tessa Priddy
We know from Scripture that Jesus, the Son of God, is the VERY IMAGE of God. Also, we know in the beginning it's written that Adam was created in the image and likeness of God, a son of God. Adam and Jesus are both called son's in the word of God. However, one brought sin and death into the world, while the other brought freedom from sin and eternal life. Adam was like God, because God made him a living soul in His image. God gave him power and authority in the earth. He also had a will, which gave him the ability to plan and make decisions. The ability to feel emotions was imparted. He was also NOT like God in many ways. He did not have the power of eternal life, there was a tree planted in the Garden of Eden that was the Tree of Life. It signified that there was a way that mankind could live eternally, but mankind did not have eternal life within himself as God does. Adam needed a helper, which was created bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. She was created from a rib bone of Adam, being of man or mankind. Adam did not have the power to produce someone like him or create life. There would be no son of Adam without a female. As a side note, the role of females is not solely to procreate. It's not a man's primary role either. This is spiritual, so don't get all caught up in the purpose of women in the world. God is able to impart life, because He is life. He is able to create a son without a helper, He is a SPIRIT. He is a life giving Spirit. He has no beginning or end! Adam is created in the IMAGE of God and Jesus Christ is the VERY IMAGE of God. One was a son by the flesh (created a son, a living soul) and the other was GOD IN THE FLESH. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men." Then John 1: 14-18, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the ONLY BEGOTTEN of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fullness have we all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." --John 1:1-4 Just as John was born prior to Christ physically, Adam was born prior to Christ physically, yet Jesus Christ is preferred before John and was before Adam. Why? He existed before them! That which is spiritual existed before the natural, but was introduced or revealed (to mankind) after the natural was created. "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening [life giving] spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual," 1 Corinthians 15:45-47.
